Cooking Against the Grain Review by Orleatha Smith
It’s been a bit crazy lately with our schedule so it’s taken some time to get
a chance to sit down and really review this book. I have to say, I am totally
impressed and can only say I wish I had written this. This is a fantastic resource
for those people who say Paleo/Primal/GF/WholeFoods/Real Foods are too hard!
No, they’re not and Orleatha does a fantastic job of helping you plan out your
cooking so that it isn’t! It does take planning but anything worth doing is worth
doing right. I think we would all agree our health and our family’s health
should factor there at the top! Our families deserve healthy meals — not fast, junk
food. We only get this one body and this one life, why should it be spent in
anything but optimal health?
Orleatha outlines how to plan, the best strategies for getting the job done
and how to organize yourself on game day. She even gives you great tips & tricks.
The format of the entire book is so easy to read. The charts and worksheets are
awesome tools that you can copy and reuse over and over.
Looking at the recipes, themselves there was a nice variety of different foods and
Orleatha outlined the appropriate steps for freezing and reheating. It can’t get much
simpler than that, unless of course, she offered to come cook for you but then I
would hog her all to myself, because those recipes looked really delicious!
There were a few ingredients that some Paleo people might have issue with but a
simple tweak would take care of those and they are all good.
Cooking Against the Grain is a great cookbook, particularly for families and those
that have demanding jobs that you need a little help getting organized to prepare meals
ahead of time for yourself. I recommend you check it out and pass one along to friends
and family, alike.
Get educated and get healthy!
Bon Appetit!
