When the music stops? When the external rah-rah motivation is nowhere to be found?
When it’s just you alone, the task staring you in the face, and… silence.
Or in the away game, down by 5, in a stadium filled with rabid fans WILLING you to roll over and die.
My all-time favorite quote (and email signature) is by the Greek lyrical poet Archilochus, who said
“We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.”
Live the YOU, every day, you wish to be.
Built, not bought.
Hustled, not handed.
Earned, not given.
Look, I get it – I love external motivation, too! The CT Fletchers and Gary Vees and Tony Robbins of the world. Rise and grind. Just fucking do it.
At some point though, you’ll have to have established a habit of excellence that is part and parcel of that which is YOU. A habit of excellence supported by a system and process that works for you.
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel)
